The new flagship smartphone from Oppos is the Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro. The new model from Oppos sees it’s first release without the USB Type-C port. The port was seen on the iPhone 4s , Redmi Note 10 Pro and it’s a shame that it’s been removed from this phone. Luckily, the alternative market has taken this one step further by releasing a new smartphone with the same port, but in a different colour. Is the Oppos 10 Pro any good?
The biggest selling point of this smartphone is probably the superior design over the competition – which is pretty well known now. The Oppos redmi note 10 pro looks like it has a bezeled glass face that runs the entire length of the phone and incorporates a protruding rear camera array. This is an unusual approach for an smartphone, but it makes it difficult to pick out another weak point – especially as most phones have large bezels on the front of their units.
The rear camera is also pretty standard, with a high-end 16 mega-pixel Sony IMT lens, and a relatively large flash drive. The flash drive is probably the one shortcoming of this handset. The redmi note 10 pro is only available with a single drive, so if you want more storage you’ll have to settle for buying an additional SIM card. In my use, this card slot is sufficient, but it’s certainly not recommended for heavy users. If you’re only planning on using the phone at certain times of the year, this isn’t a major setback.
The secondary camera on this phone is nothing special – it just acts as a miniature model of the primary camera, which unfortunately means that you get excellent image quality, but little else. For professional photographers, this isn’t a huge issue, but for all of us who want to take nice pictures, the lack of auto-focus is disappointing. Even the redmi note 10 pro s with the standard cameras included doesn’t support optical zoom, so you’ll have to use your optical zoom software to fill in the gaps.
The other major weakness of this phone is the battery – it is not very large, nor is it removable. It lasts for about six hours on a good day, but this is largely dependent upon how active you are and how you use the phone. The standard cameras on this handset are not compatible with the microSD slot, and neither is there any sort of memory card reader. This means that you’ll need to use the micro USB cable that comes with your cell phone in order to transfer any pictures or music to your computer.
Despite these shortcomings, the Redmi Note 10 Pro still is a great phone. The screen is big, bright and colourful, and the overall package is really quite attractive. In my opinion, the downside of this phone is the battery, which could use some improvement. If you’re only interested in taking pictures at night, the lack of optical zoom might be acceptable, but if you need to zoom in on objects, the poor resolution will definitely disappoint.
